Brian Donnelly popular known as KAWS is a New-York based artist born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1974. He graduated from the school of Visual arts New York with a bachelor in fine arts and illustration. Upon graduation in 1996, KAWS began working as a freelance animator for Disney. At Disney, he contributed to films such as 101 Dalmatians, Doug and Daria.
He started out as a graffiti artist while growing up in Jersey. By the early 1990s he moved to New York City where he began perverting the images on bus shelters, phone booth advertisements, and billboards. Once he began to gain popularity, his graffiti advertisements became highly sought after which led him to work in places like London, Paris, Japan and Germany. He was given the Pernod Liquid Art Award in 1998, which offers grant to new artists.
He has designed toys and clothing for well-known companies such as Nike, Original Fake, Undercover, Comme des Garcons and Vans. He has also modified many mundane television and cartoon idols such as characters from Mickey Mouse, SpongeBob Square Pants and the Simpsons.
The image was consolidated into a balloon for the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
KAWS is also known for designing limited edition toys and clothings. His works have been displayed in Galleries and Museums across the globe.
